I lost a movie role because I rejected sexual advances from a director – Akofa Edjeani

Ghanaian actress Akofa Edjeani recently shared a troubling experience she encountered with a director in the movie industry during an interview on Joy FM. Discussing the challenges faced by women in the male-dominated industry, Edjeani revealed a situation where she was subjected to gender disparities.

She recounted an incident where she was persuaded by a producer to lower her rates for two consecutive movie shoots. Despite her reluctance, she agreed. However, during the filming, a director invited her to his room under the pretense of watching a movie, which she declined after suspecting his ulterior motives.

Edjeani refused to compromise her principles and rejected the director's advances, which unfortunately resulted in her being removed from the cast of the next movie. Despite facing consequences for her decision, she commended her own courage and refusal to compromise her dignity for any role.

She emphasized the importance of staying true to one's principles and not succumbing to pressure in pursuit of opportunities in the industry. Edjeani highlighted that her talent and integrity have been instrumental in her career success, reaffirming her commitment to maintaining her identity and principles regardless of external pressures.
