Kojo Oppong Nkrumah leaves MOI
Former Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has encouraged the Ministry's staff to maintain and improve upon the media support initiatives implemented during his tenure. Speaking at a farewell event at the Ministry's premises on Friday, February 16, he emphasized the importance of sustaining and expanding these programs under the leadership of the incoming Minister, Fatimatu Abubakar.
Oppong Nkrumah highlighted the Media Capacity Enhancement Programme (MCEP) and the Coordinated Mechanism for the Safety of Journalists (CMSJ) as crucial initiatives that require ongoing backing. He praised these programs for training over 140 journalists from various media outlets across Ghana and ensuring the safety of media practitioners.
The former Minister stressed the need for collaboration among government agencies, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), and the private sector to address challenges facing these media support programs. He urged persistence in seeking cooperation from other institutions, acknowledging the difficulties but emphasizing the importance of collective action.
Oppong Nkrumah also emphasized the importance of maintaining high research standards to provide accurate feedback to the government. He highlighted the Ministry's existing research department, urging its effective utilization to support government efforts in governance.
In closing, the former Minister expressed gratitude to the Ministry's staff for their support during his tenure and solicited their continued cooperation in fulfilling the Ministry's responsibilities effectively.
