Many Ghanaians have expressed approval towards the removal of Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta as part of President Akufo-Addo’s recent reshuffle.
Ofori-Atta had faced criticism from both majority and minority legislators for his handling of the economy, leading to calls for his dismissal.
However, Franklin Cudjoe of IMANI Africa argues that Ofori-Atta's reassignment shouldn't be seen as a demotion but rather as an elevation to a role focusing on international investment and capital markets.
Cudjoe suggests that this new position could give Ofori-Atta significant influence over major deals, potentially with less public scrutiny.
He compares it to a 'mafia don' scenario, where Ofori-Atta may wield substantial power behind the scenes.
In addition to his new role, Ofori-Atta will also serve as a Senior Presidential Advisor to President Akufo-Addo on economic matters.
