Update on Walewale robbery

One individual has been declared deceased, while eight others, including a five-year-old child, are in critical condition at the Tamale Teaching Hospital after a robbery incident last night in Walewale, located in the North East Region.

The attack reportedly involved three armed assailants arriving on motorcycles and initiating gunfire at a bustling bus station near the Nalerigu junction, subsequently targeting a mobile money vendor. The vendor sustained gunshot wounds while attempting to escape, with eight additional individuals at the bus station injured by stray bullets.

Following the attack, all victims were initially taken to the Walewale Government Hospital before being transferred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital. Unfortunately, the mobile money vendor identified as Rabiu has succumbed to his injuries at the Tamale Teaching Hospital.

This tragic event adds to a series of reported robbery incidents within the municipality, with police sources indicating nearly 30 such incidents since 2021. The police cite insufficient manpower and resources as challenges in combating these robberies.
